Hotel Rumbao — Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

The name says it all. "Rumbao" means party in Puerto Rico — a festive night out, the kind of energy that makes the island unforgettable. When this 245-room property at 100 Brumbaugh Street reopened as the Caribbean's first Tribute Portfolio hotel by Marriott, it needed a sound and lighting experience that matched that promise from the moment guests walked through the door.

Located in the heart of Old San Juan's historic district, steps from El Morro and La Fortaleza, Hotel Rumbao blends mid-century design with deep Puerto Rican heritage. Level Three was brought on to design the audio, video, and lighting systems for the hotel's key food and beverage spaces — environments where music, culture, and cuisine all come together.

The Spaces

1

Kueros Island Bar & Kitchen

Kueros is the hotel's anchor — a destination restaurant led by Chef Elvin Marrero that fuses international technique with bold Puerto Rican flavors. The phrase "¡Que repiquen los cueros!" heralds the beginning of the party. With traditional dance performances accompanying dinner and an outdoor terrace overlooking the bay, the audio system had to fill the room with energy while keeping every table comfortable for conversation. Level Three designed a zoned system that handles live music, DJ sets, and ambient dining seamlessly.

2

Rumbao Market Lobby Café & Lounge

The lobby's market-style café and lounge runs from breakfast through cocktails, serving as the hotel's social living room throughout the day. Level Three installed a distributed audio system with lighting scenes that transition naturally from bright morning energy to warm evening ambiance — all running on automated schedules so the staff never has to think about it.

3

Rooftop Pool & Events

The rooftop pool offers sweeping views of Old San Juan and the bay, making it a natural gathering point for guests. Level Three outfitted the space with weatherproof speakers and accent lighting capable of supporting everything from a quiet afternoon by the water to a curated rooftop event. With nearly 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space also available, the AV infrastructure was designed to flex between hospitality and production modes.
